Summary
Claus is a spatial planner by education. Over the past 20 years, he engaged mostly to support cities in their strive to turnaround today’s traffic regimes in favour of developing a sustainable urban mobility reality. Claus covers the full range of mobility planning and gives special emphasis on a push and pull approach that reduces the role of conventional motorised traffic like by cars to the necessary and increases options and attractiveness of sustainable modes like walking, cycling, public transport, micromobility and shared mobility solutions. He addresses specific challenging topics like the use of public space like in parking management, as well as perceptions, habits, and behavioural patterns of mobility users. His ambition is to support cities to become places of a high quality of life with public space designed for people and their wellbeing in the first place. Claus provides expertise in organising and running a participatory and integrated planning process to produce action plans that meet stakeholder needs and expectations and are implementation ready at the stage of their adoption. Thanks to his role as Lead Expert in the URBACT III Action Planning Networks CityMobilNet and Space4People, Claus can support cities on their road to improve local planning processes and gain new capacities in exchange and learning with their peer cities.
